These paintings were created as part of my independent study of Mithila art while studying abroad in Nepal. Mithila art is the style of the Terai region of Southern Nepal and Northern India, and it is traditionally painted by the women in the community for various rituals, holidays, and celebrations. To learn about the art form, I worked at a women's art cooperative (the Janakpur Women's Development Center) where I created artwork in the style and interviewed local artists about their practice.
